Did I say bold? …. I meant flip… no, I really meant Bold… perhaps, or maybe the flip?

Just when you think you've made a decision about which Blackberry you would like to buy - they come out with another model! This doesn't make things any easier!!! For a while now I have been looking at a smart phone for business use. I am traveling quite a bit and the idea is that it will be easier to stay in touch with the office and business activities wherever I am. I currently do this with my laptop, but you don't always have your laptop open and connected, so I am going to buy a smartphone to bridge that gap. I really thought I was going to wait another few weeks until RIM would release the Blackberry bold in Australia. I really like the idea of this "phone", as…

The good, the bad and the ugly

Uncategorized
How can this day have so many faces? It started off quite normal... my dressage lesson got cancelled which was OK as I am working on the deadline to get the cloud computing workshop finished. I took advantage of this by going to the office at the usual time so I could get started on the presentation... that was 56 minutes ago! AARRGGHH.... I had to restart my laptop 2 times, MS Office outlook didn't start properly -  stopped working and now you get that horrible message "your fine is being checked for problems, this may take a few minutes..." Yeah - try 10 minutes!!! I know, computers are supposed to make your life easier -  give you more efficiency and higher productivity but NOT TODAY! And isn't it Murphy's…

Dinner at parliament House

Uncategorized
Last night was the gala dinner at the conference and this year the location was the great hall in Parliament house. Silly us... we thought it was the OLD parliament house (and assumed it was now a function centre). Nope - it was the NEW parliament house where currently parliament is in sitting. (No, Kevin Rudd didn't join us for dinner.... ) It was a great evening, especially as one of our students was the winner of the EXIN IT Service Manager certificate Award. This award is given to the student with the highest score for the ITIL Service Manager certificate exams. I must admit that I am extremely proud, as this is the 3rd year in a row that one of our students was nominated for the award and…

Show me the money… please.

Uncategorized
Maybe I am a bit of a push-over but I hate saying "NO" to clients, employees and business partners. I still want everybody to be happy and to have a good feeling about doing business with me. But I have to learn when to draw the line; sometimes this is easy as it is very clear that the other party is wrong and I am right. (like the time when one of our resellers was caught cheating) That's when I get very strong and NO comes easily. However, in other cases it isn't so easy. I try to have a personal relationship with most of the partners we work with and I enjoy dealing with them. That is what makes it sooooo difficult when one of them doesn't pay their…

no longer with my head in the clouds…

Uncategorized
I have well and truly arrived back on earth! After an amazing 2 days of the cloud computing workshop I am now at the other end of the spectrum: exhibiting at a conference... the annual itSMF conference, and for those of you who know me it doesn't come as a surprise when I say that this isn't my most favorite way to spend three days. Yes, it is great to see a lot of people again and fantastic to see the faces that belong to the email addresses and names. And I am having a great time with my team members and colleagues catching up on the gossip in the industry,  but overall conferences don't really do it for me. Am I cynical? Probably. Am I unrealistic? No, I don't…

Procrastination… why am I so good at it?!

Uncategorized
OK - today is a bit of soul searching... As I have mentioned before, I need to get the materials ready for the cloud computing workshop that I am running on Monday. The material MUST be ready by tomorrow... which gives me less than 12 hours to finish it!! It is amazing.. I have tidied up my desk, cleaned my keyboard, made a full backup copy of my 'my documents' on our new 'mybook' external drive (amazing technology and I still can't get over the fact that you can purchase 1 Terabyte of storage for less than $200!!!) and a million other things that are very important but have NOTHING to do with the workshop! Which reminds me... I need to update my facebook profile! Why am I so good…

The Benefits of ITIL V3 Intermediate eLearning courses

Uncategorized
Our students choose to enroll in our eLearning programs for ITIL V3 Intermediate for a number of reasons: The ability to study in the evening, nights and weekends (if you so desire); this way you can still attend your day job or complete your project, or maximise your billable hours while you gain new knowledge and prepare for the exam.   No need for travel; eLearning can be done everywhere, including -but not limited to- your desk at the office or at home on the couch. Additional benefits include: no cost for petrol and parking, no extra demand on the environment because you don't have to fly to a training venue. This is true for the students, but also for the instructor/trainer. This is offering Green IT in a practical…

Public Holiday to go to the Carnival?!

Uncategorized
Today is EKKA day... one day per year where the people in Brisbane get the day off (Public Holiday) to go to the Brisbane Agriculture Show. I have been here for 8 years now and I still don't get it... Why should businesses close for a day so people can attend the show? The EKKA -as it is commonly knows- is an annual event that lasts for approx. 10 days and at the heart of it are the agricultural events. Farmers get the chance to showcase their cows, sheep, horses, pumpkins, flowers etc. So from a historical point of view I understand why it used to be such a big deal. But it is now 2008 - and do people really need the day off work to see a few…
