Set a floor price before quoting

A floor price is the lowest price you will quote for a service, written down with the qualifications that make the work worth doing. Ivanka Menken uses the Floor Price Filter inside Cash-Tight Growth Mentoring, a 6-month 1:1 programme at AUD $1,500 per month ex GST. You set the floor, the minimum scope and the client criteria before the next quote, then test recent quotes against them. In the example on this page, the floor is $5,000, the minimum is five days and the target is 450+ students. Below the floor, you decline or reprice.

The Floor Price Filter is a tool inside the programme, not a separate product.

The quote is below the floor before you notice

  1. 01You quote small jobs below your real cost.
  2. 02You say yes because saying no feels risky.
  3. 03Your newest price is hidden in old habits.

A small job lands on a Friday. The price is $3,800, the work is three days, the client has 200 students. You say yes because the calendar has a gap. The floor was never written down.

A floor price is a filter, not a target

A target is a number you hope to hit. A floor is a number you will not go below. The difference is the qualification rule: what work, how many days, which client.

Without the rule, every small job looks like revenue. With the rule, the small job is a decision: decline it, reprice it, or change the scope until it clears.

A floor price is a filter, not a target. It tells you which work not to quote.

Staying stuck means quoting below a $5,000 floor and calling it busy.

Test the quote against the floor, not the calendar

Floor Price Filter puts the price floor, the minimum scope and the client target on one page, so the next quote is a yes, a no, or a reprice before it is sent.

Floor Price FilterAn example floor price filter: quotes of 2,400, 3,800 and 4,500 dollars sit below a 5,000 dollar floor; quotes of 5,000 and 6,500 dollars sit above it. The filter checks price, five days and 450 students. Below the floor, the quote is declined or repriced.AN EXAMPLE FILTER · YOUR NUMBERSAT OR ABOVE: QUOTE$5,0005d · 450$6,5006d · 600THE $5,000 FLOORBELOW: DECLINE OR REPRICE$2,4002 days · 180$3,8003 days · 200$4,5004 days · 300THE FILTERPrice: $5,000 or moreDays: five or moreStudents: 450 or moreAll three: quote. Floor Price Filter · a framework by Ivanka Menken

What it is

It is a one-page filter, not a price list. It holds the floor, the minimum days, the client criteria and the decline language. The next quote is tested against all three.

What it replaces

It replaces the habit of saying yes and hoping the work is worth it. Pricing floor for services starts before the quote.

It sits inside Cash-Tight Growth Mentoring, alongside the monthly scorecard. Price of the newest work is one of the five numbers. No separate checkout.

  • 01Price floor: the lowest quote you will send
  • 02Minimum scope: the days or units that make it clean
  • 03Client target: the size or fit that predicts a good job
  • 04Decline language: what you say below the floor

Put the last quotes through the filter

Ivanka starts with the last month of quotes. She asks: What job is too small? What criteria predict a clean job? What price floor makes the work worth doing? What do you say below it? They write the floor, the minimum scope, the client target and the decline language. Before the next session, the founder brings the next quote.

The next small quote and the floor decision.

02

The numbers

Price floor, minimum days, client target.

03

The story

Why saying no feels riskier than the job.

04

The commitment

Write the filter and test the next quote.

Before the next session, the founder brings the next quote and the decision.

A floor you can use before the quote

By month 6, the floor is a habit, not a one-off number.

NOW

  • The quote is set by the calendar gap.
  • Small jobs are accepted by default.
  • The floor is a hope, not a number.
  • The decline is improvised.

BY MONTH 6

  • A written floor price.
  • A minimum scope and client target.
  • Decline or reprice language.
  • A record of quotes declined or repriced.

The container: 12 fortnightly 60-minute sessions, a monthly scorecard, reviews at month 3 and month 6.

Ivanka Menken reviewing a founder's quotes in Cash-Tight Growth Mentoring
The floor is a decision, not a hope.

The numbers are read with you, not at you

Ivanka Menken built Cash-Tight Growth Mentoring for founders of $500K to $3M businesses that are growing while cash tightens. She reads the numbers with you, asks the hard question, and holds you to the decision you write down.

The Floor Price Filter is one of the tools inside that work. It does not replace your accountant, and it does not price for you. It makes the floor visible before the next quote.

“Personable, but straight to the point. Every session is a combination of strategy, execution and mindset.”

Business owner

Who fits, and who does not

It fits

  • You run a $500K to $3M business growing while cash is tight.
  • You quote small jobs to fill the calendar.
  • You want a written floor and a qualification rule.
  • You want the words for a job below it.

It does not fit

  • You want accounting or financial advice.
  • You want a done-for-you fix or someone else to price.
  • You want every enquiry to become a quote.
  • You will not decline or reprice a small job.

Questions about the floor price

How does the Floor Price Filter work inside Cash-Tight Growth Mentoring?

It is a one-page filter Ivanka Menken uses inside Cash-Tight Growth Mentoring. You write the price floor, the minimum days, the client target and the words to decline or reprice. Then you test the last quotes and the next quote against it. The programme runs 6 months at AUD $1,500 per month ex GST, and the tool has no separate checkout.

What if a job is below the $5,000 floor?

You decline it or reprice it, using the language you wrote before the quote. In Cash-Tight Growth Mentoring, Ivanka Menken uses the floor as a filter, not a target: if the job cannot clear it with a scope change, it is not the work for you. The example floor is $5,000. The programme runs 6 months at AUD $1,500 per month ex GST.

How do I choose the five-day minimum?

The minimum is the scope that makes the job clean: the days, the setup and the travel that are worth doing. In Cash-Tight Growth Mentoring, Ivanka Menken has you look at the last jobs and mark which ones were too small to be profitable. Five days is the example. The programme runs 6 months at AUD $1,500 per month ex GST.

What does the 450+ student target change?

It qualifies the client before the price. In the example, a school with 450+ students can carry the five-day program at the $5,000 floor; a smaller school may need a different scope. Ivanka Menken uses Cash-Tight Growth Mentoring to write the target and test it against recent quotes. The programme runs 6 months at AUD $1,500 per month ex GST.
