Free spreadsheet templates for founders who are growing but cash-tight

Three free spreadsheet templates from Ivanka Menken's work with founders of $500K to $3M businesses: a 13-week cash flow template, a weeks of payroll covered calculator and a price increase calculator. Each workbook has a cover, an inputs sheet, a dashboard with charts and a checks sheet, with example figures to overwrite. No email required.

By Ivanka Menken, Strategic Mentor·Updated

  1. Dashboard of the 13-week cash flow template with example figures: five KPI tiles, closing cash by week against a $90,000 minimum, cash in and cash out by week, a weekly status strip and Base against Downside.01

    13-Week Cash Flow Template

Thirteen weeks of receipts and payments by type, payroll worked out for you, closing cash against your own minimum, a downside scenario and a dashboard.

Price, unit cost or margin and a proposed rise: the clients you could lose before gross profit falls, the discount in reverse and a two-way sensitivity table.

Which template should you start with?

Start with the number that worries you most. If it is payroll, the weeks of payroll covered calculator takes two minutes and gives you scorecard number 1. If you want to see the next quarter week by week, take the 13-week cash flow template. If you know your prices are too low, the price increase calculator shows how much room a rise gives you before gross profit falls.

Why a spreadsheet rather than an app?

Because the point is that you know your own numbers. A spreadsheet you fill in yourself, with formulas you can read, keeps the method visible, and you can share it with your bookkeeper or your team without anyone signing up for anything. Keep it in whatever you already use: Excel, Google Sheets or Numbers.

What do these templates have to do with the mentoring?

They are the spreadsheet versions of three tools inside Ivanka Menken's 1:1 mentoring: the 13-week cash view, the first number on the five-number scorecard, and the margin-first scaling test. Mentoring clients fill them in themselves; Ivanka reads the numbers with them and asks the questions. The templates are free to use whether or not you ever work with her.

What do founders ask about the templates?

Are the templates really free, with no email?

Yes. Each download link gives you the file straight away, with no form, no email address and nothing tracked. Ivanka Menken publishes them the same way as her free book, The Clarity Shift. Use them, share them inside your business, and come back to the online tools on this site whenever you want the method behind the numbers.

Which software do I need?

Any spreadsheet program that opens an Excel file. The templates are standard .xlsx files built with ordinary formulas and no macros, so they open in Excel, in Google Sheets (upload to Google Drive and open) and in Numbers on a Mac. Every output is a formula you can click on and read, and the gold input cells are the only cells to change.

Can I share the templates inside my company?

Yes. Share them with your bookkeeper, your leadership team or another founder, as they are. Each file opens on a cover sheet with the link back to its page on this site, so anyone you send it to can read how to fill it in and find the online tools. Ivanka Menken asks only that the credit line stays and the files are not sold.

Is any of this financial advice?

No. Ivanka Menken is a strategic mentor, not an accountant or financial adviser. The templates are arithmetic: forward views of cash, a payroll cover ratio and a break-even volume calculation, filled in by you. Your accountant does the accounts and advises on tax, super and payroll tax. The decisions the numbers point to are yours.

Would you rather fill in the numbers online?

The five-number scorecard runs in your browser. Nothing saved or sent, no email required.

Want a second pair of eyes on what the numbers show?

Ivanka reads these numbers with founders inside her six-month 1:1 mentoring. A 20-minute conversation is the place to start.
