INSIDE 1:1 MENTORING
The 1-5 ownership gap: the scorecard metric that holds you to your own commitments.
The ownership-rating gap is a scorecard mechanic Ivanka Menken includes in her 1:1 Mentoring programme, priced at AUD $1,500 per month ex GST. Each month the founder rates their own outcome ownership 1 to 5 on the fortnight's commitment, Ivanka provides a blind rating, and the gap is discussed as a sixth informal track alongside the five monthly scorecard metrics: weeks of payroll covered by cash, gross margin, newest-work price against a year ago, commitments kept, and confidence 1 to 10.

HOW IT WORKS
Three moves, once a month
It takes a few minutes of the monthly review, and it often explains the rest of the scorecard.
- Move 1You rateScore your own ownership of the fortnight's commitment, from 1 to 5.
- Move 2Ivanka rates, blindWithout seeing your score, Ivanka gives her own 1 to 5 for the same commitment.
- Move 3You talk about the gapNot who is right: what the difference shows about how you hold yourself to account.
The gaps are read together at the month 3 and month 6 reviews, next to commitments kept. The gap usually surfaces in the third part of every fortnightly session: the story you are telling yourself.

FREQUENTLY ASKED
Questions about the ownership gap
What is the ownership-rating gap?
The ownership-rating gap is the difference between how you rate your own ownership of a commitment and how Ivanka Menken rates it. Each month you score your fortnightly commitment from 1 to 5, Ivanka scores it blind, and you talk about the gap. It sits beside the five scorecard numbers in her 1:1 mentoring program.
How does Ivanka Menken's mentoring scorecard work?
Ivanka Menken's mentoring scorecard is one page, filled in by you once a month: weeks of payroll covered by cash, gross margin, the price of your newest work against a year ago, commitments kept, and confidence from 1 to 10. The ownership-rating gap is an optional sixth track beside them, and the whole page is reviewed at months 3 and 6.
Is this an extra cost?
No. The ownership-rating gap is part of the 1:1 mentoring program with Ivanka Menken, which is AUD $1,500 a month ex GST with a six-month commitment. There is no separate fee and nothing extra to buy. If you would rather keep to the five standard numbers, you can simply leave the sixth track out.
Where did this mechanic come from?
The ownership-rating gap adapts a practice some operating leaders use with their direct reports: a self-rating, a blind rating from the leader, then a conversation about the difference. Ivanka Menken applies it to the founder's own commitments, so the person being held to account is you, not only your team.
How often do we review it?
You and Ivanka Menken look at the ownership-rating gap once a month, when you fill in the scorecard, and again in the reviews at month 3 and month 6. Between those points the gap often comes up on its own, in the part of each fortnightly session where you look at the story you are telling yourself about a decision.
What if my rating and Ivanka's never match?
That is useful, not a failure. A gap that stays the same size shows Ivanka Menken where your sense of ownership and your results part ways, usually on one type of commitment. The ownership-rating gap is there to make that pattern visible so you can work on it. Matching scores are never the goal: an honest conversation is.
Does this replace the 5 standard metrics?
No. The five standard numbers stay as they are: payroll cover, gross margin, newest-work price, commitments kept and confidence. The ownership-rating gap is an informal sixth track that Ivanka Menken adds beside them when it helps. It measures how you hold yourself to account, which the other five only show indirectly.
