Pause new clients, but not forever. A bounded pause with the numbers that end it.

A bounded pause is a pause on new-client intake with a start date and named exit triggers, used in Ivanka Menken's Growth-vs-Financials Clarity Intensive, a 90-minute session at AUD $1,500 ex GST. The founder decides how long the pause may run and which readings on their own scorecard will end it, such as weeks of payroll covered or gross margin. Ivanka holds them to it, in 1:1 Mentoring if they want fortnightly follow-through.

When new work is hiding the old problems

  • “New clients keep arriving and margin keeps slipping”
  • “The team is stretched across too many accounts”
  • “Prices have not moved since we started”
  • “I know we should pause, and I fear it will never end”
  • “Nobody can say what would tell us to start again”

Five numbers you already track

You choose which of them will end the pause, and at what reading. Ivanka never sets the threshold for you.

What you leave the 90 minutes with

The Growth-vs-Financials Intensive follows its usual four steps. When the answer is pause, these four things are written down before the session ends.

If you continue in 1:1 Mentoring, the triggers sit on the monthly scorecard and are reviewed with Ivanka at month 3 and month 6.

  1. 1A start dateThe day new-client intake stops, and who tells which prospects.
  2. 2A longest possible endThe latest date the pause can run to, even if the triggers have not all been reached.
  3. 3Your exit triggersTwo or three scorecard readings, set by you, that reopen growth when they are reached.
  4. 4A review dateA 30-day check on the triggers, in writing.

“During our sessions Ivanka isn’t just talking theory. She is sharing her own lived experiences.”

Before you pause

What is a bounded pause?

A bounded pause is a pause on taking new clients that has a start date, a longest possible end date and named exit triggers. Ivanka Menken uses it as the pause branch of the Growth-vs-Financials Clarity Intensive, so the founder can fix margin, delivery or the numbers without the pause quietly becoming permanent.

How long should the pause be?

That is your decision, made in the session. Ivanka Menken asks what the pause needs to fix and how long that work honestly takes, then sets a longest possible end date with you so a bounded pause cannot drift. The exit triggers let it end earlier if your numbers move sooner.

What are exit triggers?

Exit triggers are two or three readings on your own scorecard that end a bounded pause when they are reached: for example, a number of weeks of payroll covered by cash, or a gross margin percentage. You set them, not Ivanka Menken, because they have to fit your business. She holds you to them and checks them every 30 days.

What if clients leave during the pause?

A bounded pause stops new intake; it does not push existing clients away. If a client leaves, Ivanka Menken treats it as information for the review: was it a client the pause was meant to protect, or one the business could not serve well at its current price? The answer may change your exit triggers.

Is this financial advice?

No. A bounded pause is a business decision you make and own. Ivanka Menken helps you make it clearly and hold to it; your accountant and advisers handle accounting, financial and legal questions. The Growth-vs-Financials Clarity Intensive is a 90-minute thinking session at AUD $1,500 ex GST, not a review of your accounts.

Where does mentoring come in?

If you want someone holding the pause with you, the bounded pause carries into 1:1 Mentoring with Ivanka Menken, AUD $1,500 a month ex GST over six months. Your exit triggers join the monthly scorecard, each fortnight's commitment is about the work the pause is for, and the triggers are read together at month 3 and month 6.
